At the end of 2009, Dr. Emmerich Fuchs, one of the founders and Managing Directors of DECOMSYS (now Elektrobit Austria) founded the Austrian-based SIMTOOLS GmbH and took over the SIMTOOLS / SIMTARGET software and intellectual property rights from Elektrobit Austria. The main reasons for transferring SIMTOOLS / SIMTARGET to an independent company were:

• Elektrobit (EB) focuses on ECU software based on AUTOSAR technology for the automotive market only.

• SIMTOOLS GmbH offers model-based software development tools for distributed embedded systems on the basis of the CAN and FlexRay communication systems without a special focus on one specific industry.

In early 2010 two senior development engineers from the original development team at DECOMSYS (now Elektrobit Austria) joined SIMTOOLS GmbH in order to facilitate the ramp-up and to provide support and maintenance to existing customers.
